How to Wash and Care for a Synthetic Wig
Wig Care Guide
Synthetic wigs usually need less frequent washing than natural growing hair. Wash only when needed, and keep friction and heat to a minimum.
Before Washing
1. Detangle gently
Start at the ends and work upward in small sections. Avoid pulling aggressively through knots. Support the cap or lace area with your other hand while detangling.
2. Use cool to lukewarm water
Very hot water can affect synthetic fibers and pre-set styles. Use cool or comfortably lukewarm water unless your product instructions state otherwise.
How to Wash a Synthetic Wig
3. Clean without rubbing or twisting
Use a small amount of gentle shampoo suitable for synthetic wigs. Move the wig through the water gently and smooth in the direction of the hair. Do not scrub the fibers into a ball, twist the cap, or wring the hair.
4. Rinse thoroughly
Rinse with cool to lukewarm water until product is removed. Handle the lace, cap, seams, and fibers gently throughout the process.
5. Blot—do not rub
Place the wig in a clean towel and gently blot or press away excess water. Avoid rough towel friction.
Drying and Styling
6. Air dry
Let the wig air dry on an appropriate wig stand in a well-ventilated area away from direct heat. Avoid sleeping in or storing a wig while it is damp.
7. Use heat only when the product is heat-friendly
Some synthetic fibers can tolerate low heat and others cannot. Many current UNILOVELY 13×6 lace-front styles are described as heat-friendly synthetic fiber, but you should still use low heat and follow the specific product instructions. If the product page does not state that heat is allowed, avoid hot tools.
How Often Should You Wash It?
There is no universal weekly schedule. Wash based on actual wear, product buildup, odor, sweat, and styling products. Washing too often can create unnecessary wear, while waiting too long can allow buildup to accumulate.
Storage Between Wears
Store the wig clean, fully dry, and gently detangled. Keep it away from direct sunlight, high heat, heavy moisture, and rough surfaces that can create friction.
